The availability of the vacation rental in Umbria:

Our family of six (4 adults, two children under 10) spent a wonderful two weeks at La Camilla in August 2017. The fully-equipped two storey villa has magnificent views of the rolling landscape across to the town of Todi and is close (a 10 minute walk) to the nearby village of Grutti.  The villa, its gardens and pool are obviously a work of love by its owners, who generously encouraged us to forage in the vegetable patch for the evening meal. The feeling is one more of being in a home than a rental property.  While the village itself is not postcard perfect, it has a charm of its own and we were able to join in the colourful annual festival, complete with locals in medieval attire and flag throwing.  Most tourists were Italian - a definite plus! Nearby San Terenziano has a nice horse riding facility which the children enjoyed greatly. Surrounding towns and villages, such as Perugia, Todi, Foligno and Montefalco are within relatively easy reach, as are the various walking paths that we explored. Recommended.

La Camilla was a particularly beautiful house and was very well equipped. It was spotlessly clean and had the perfect space for our family. We loved the garden which was interesting and beautiful and extremely well maintained. Overall we really had a wonderful time there and would highly recommend it to anyone . We will hopefully come back there again In the future.

Dear Saskia and Sylvia,

We've just returned from a nice holiday in Italy. We were very positively surprised about La Camilla. What a nice property and wonderful surroundings. We've had a warm welcome. The caretaker explained us everything. He was very friendly to us. We've enjoyed the week. Therefor we would like to thank you and the owner for an unforgettable time. We will surely get back to you in the future for our next holiday in Umbria.

Henri and Jac

Dear Saskia and Sylvia,

We had a wonderful time at La Camilla. This was our second stay at the villa and we enjoyed it just as much, if not more.  It is a lovely house in a beautiful setting with a lovely pool and garden and very well fitted out.

Best regards, Catherine England

We have had a wonderful week in La Camilla. The property was beautiful with a fantastic view. The garden was filled with roses, lavender and fruit trees. We loved having herbs for our dinners picked straight from the garden! The website contains all the information we needed concerning the villa, the area around and generally about Umbria. Arben, the contact person for the house was very pleasant and service minded even speaking only Italian. He did everything to make our stay be pleasant. The house was very well maintained, the bedrooms had good space and had each a bathroom. The kitchen was big and well equipped, but it was missing some basic things, such as cloths for cleaning. This we didn't get a hold of before after 2 days when the shops opened. So we do recommend that the kitchen contains this. Another thing we would like to mentioned is the lack of barbecue equipment in the house. It would be great to have some, because we do use the barbecue a lot.

We used the local butcher in Grutti to buy all our meat for barbecue and they had very good quality on the food. The woman at the store gave us things for free to taste every time we came back to buy meat for our dinners, and we do want to recommend the meat and especially the homemade sausages they have! We also had dinner 2 times in the restaurant Le Noci in Grutti and the food was very good. We did our main grocery shopping before we came to the villa. Grutti has a small supermarket where you can find most important things but the supermarket in San Terenziano has a much better supermarket and only takes you a few minutes to drive from Grutti.

We would like to point out that we received a very professional and efficient handling of our booking from the first time we took contact with you and all the way until the day we left the villa and got a phone call from Sylvia asking if our stay was ok! We would love to come back and would definitely recommend any villa made with as a reliable holiday rental!  Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

Best regards, Ronen Norway

September/October 2013:

We had a very good stay at La Camilla and would definitely stay there again if we returned to the Todi area of Umbria. We were met on the first day by the owner, Camilla, who showed us around the property before leaving for Milan. She left us a little care package with some wine and food, which was good of her. The house is in very good shape and very clean, not a huge house but certainly big enough for our needs. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were large and comfortable. Because the house is in the country, it was very private and quiet for sleeping at night. The close access to nearby Grutti was handy as we would shop there and went to Le Noci restaurant on two different nights. The food there, by the way, was the best we had in Italy. La Camilla is set on a fairly large property with a swimming pool, a lot of lawn, an extensive garden, and an olive grove which the owners use to make their own olive oil. One of the best things about the property is the amazing view over the valley below. I can honestly say that this was the finest view we saw in all of Italy. The valley was expansive and full of Umbrian farmsteads, cyprus trees, olive groves, vineyards, and fields, with various villages and towns on the hills in the distance. Several km away on a high hill was the ancient town of Todi, with it's its protective walls, spires and towers. One morning, the valley below was filled with white cloud but Todi was above the cloud and shone in the morning sun. It was a breathtaking view.

Summer 2013:

Hello Willemijn & Saskia,

These are our experiences at La Camilla: a fantastic house ! Very clean and well kept, the garden is beautiful. It is good to know for future guests that shops close at 8 pm. We arrived late and were not able to buy our first groceries until the Monday. We enjoyed the vegetable garden with fresh tomatoes. We sincerely enjoyed our stay, lovely pool, good house and fantastic surroundings.

It was wonderful and we were completely relaxed by the end of our stay.

With kind regards, Liesbeth

Feedback from 2012:

Dear Willemijn and Saskia,

In short, La Camilla was lovely.  The house was clean and everything worked.  It was also nicely fitted out with things that made it feel very homely - like family photos, books, pictures etc.  The garden was very pretty and well kept, and the pool was clean and in an idyllic setting.  The house is very quiet and in a fantastic location with a magnificent uninterrupted view across a huge valley and looking directly at the picturesque hilltown of Todi.  The house is a few minutes walk from Grutti, which has a small grocery shop, but we found it better to shop at the EMI supermarket in Ponte Rio, which was an excellent shop and is about 20 minutes away.    The house is also well located to visit the various charming hilltop towns in the area, such as Todi, Montefalco, and towns further afield like Orvieto etc.  We would highly recommend La Camilla!

The only negative things we would have to say are as follows:

1)  The directions to the house could be improved.  The current directions suggest that you need to go through Todi, whereas you simply go off the E45 at the Todi sign, and then follow signs to Ponte Rio and then, in Ponte Rio, follow signs to Foligno and Loreto (but please check this as I may not remember it correctly).
2)  The dishwasher smelt very bad.  I think it was because the filter had not been cleaned for some time.  We cleaned the filter which helped, but in the end, we washed up by hand.
3)  The pool was very cold. As a result, we only swam on 2 days.  It may be a good idea to put in solar heating panels for the pool which I think can be done at a relatively low capital cost with negligible running costs. However, this is simply a suggestion rather than a negative comment.
4)  There were a lot of very big wasps around which were attracted by the lights on the verandah at night.  One or two also somehow managed to get into the house during the night (we are not sure how as we always made sure that all non-netted windows were closed).  We think that they are nesting in the chimney above the sitting room as we could see them flying in and out of there.  We noticed that the other chimney had netting over it, so it may be a good idea to put netting on the chimney above the sitting-room also.

I hope this is useful.

Best wishes, Catherine

Dear ladies,

Hereby our feedback of the villa La Camilla:

In general we are very satisfied with this villa. It is situated very well, the villa, the view and the garden are lovely.

Our remarks are: the pool would need some maintenance because the liner and edge starts loosening up. Furthermore we have only been able to use the bathroom downstairs because it takes about 10 minutes for warm water to reach the upstairs bathroom and with the drought in Umbrie we did not want to waste all that water.

Apart from this we can only find praise! We will certainly come back another time.

Best wishes, Familiy Van O.

Dear ladies,

We have had a lovely week.

Extremely nice view! We appreciated also the fresh vegetables we could take from the garden and the fruits. Pleasant reception by the care-taker / gardener. We are now in Verona on a terrace and the 5 of us have been thinking already for ten minutes about something that was not good about our stay or the house but we still can not think of anything.

Thanks for the info and your good service.

With best wishes, Matthijs

We very much  enjoyed our two week stay at the Villa La Camilla in early October.  Fantastic views of Todi and the surrounding countryside and great location in Umbria.  I would highly recommend this villa. It was very good having internet access.  It was good to meet with the owner at check in. Instructions on how to use the TV and DVD player would have been helpful.

Dear Saskia and Willemijn,

We loved La Camilla -- the house, the setting and views, the grounds and the pool all made for a perfect family holiday.  The only improvement I can think of is that there is a wonderful vegetable garden that we learned about from Camilla only on the last day as we were leaving, when she came over for the final inspection.  She said we could have used it all along, which would have been a real treat for us.  But that is a minor compared to the pleasure we got from the rental.

Thanks for all your help and patience.
Best, Barbara

Our party (2 adults and 3 children) very much enjoyed our stay in Villa La Camilla.  The villa was very comfortable and clean.  The house was quite cool even without the AC system.  We loved the delightful garden and swimming pool as well as the terrific view on the surroundings and Todi, in what is in our opinion the most beautiful part of Umbria.

Regards, Rudi

We were a party of 5, two couples & a single. Our stay at Camilla is rated at 9.5 out of 10. If there was a clothes drier we would say 10 out of 10. We liked the house, the view, the pool & the location.

Regards, Gary

We had a wonderful holiday.  We all loved the house---very comfortable, gorgeous property and views, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and good location for exploring Umbria.  Being close to the village of Grutti was a plus.

I have some comments about the house that I would suggest to you.

Firstly, I think the towels need to be improved.  An investment in some better quality towels would be very helpful.   The towels didn't dry well and we found that we had damp towels to use every day.  That is really my only complaint.

Secondly, I think the directions to the house could be made more explicit.  We both had navigation devices and they led us to a house by the end of the paved road.  I think you should specify that after you turn on Via Ponte Pilo (sp?) gp straight and continue straight ahead on the unpaved road.  That unpaved road will veer to the left and then you keep left when the road splits.  The house will then be the first driveway on the left and is partially hidden until you make the bend in the road.  Both cars had a difficult time finding the house.

My son found a TIM store and was able to have internet access.  If that could be added to the house though it would be a real bonus.  Americans like to be "connected" at all times---maybe most of your renters are not American so it may not matter so much to them.

(comment Villa in Umbria: wifi is available now)

I have extolled praises to my friends about Villa in Umbria website and about how helpful you were in working with us to choose the right property.  It was a lovely house, we had fabulous weather, and all in all, we loved the week we spent at La Camilla.  I would have liked another week there because we drove out almost every day to see the wonderful Umbrian towns and did not get to spend enough time just relaxing at the house.

Thanks again for all your help.

The downpayment is 20% of the rental. The remainder has to be paid one month before arrival.
The security deposit is 400 euro, to be paid upon arrival.

In Italy the tourism tax has been introduced. Each town can decide independently whether to apply this tax. It is important to keep in mind that the prices on our website do NOT include the tourism tax. Where we received confirmation from house owners that they have to ask for this tax, it is written underneath the price table.
