We stayed at the detached house Casetta. An excellent choice, it has all you need. There is a washing machine and dryer for common use together with an iron and board. The pool was very inviting but unfortunately we did not have the best weather. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
In Montone we ate deliciously: a steak to remember! (l'anticoa Osteria on the central square). We recommend it for anybody that likes to eat meat.
Everywhere in Umbria people are friendly and helpful; though we do not speak Italian we still had some chats (hand and feet) with some locals.
To be short: we will be back!

Regards,
Frank and Elly from Holland

Dear Saskia en Sylvia,

We have had a wonderful holiday. The Scarpellini family has been very accomodating and welcoming. Grandparents and children, all have their part in the hospitality at Montone Rental.

The house itself was better then we expected. A spacious living area. Open fire place, a wood stove, a large fridge, television, stereo, Wifi, good furniture, a filtercoffee machine, kitchen utensils, it was all complete. The bedroom was stylishly furnished and the beds were good. Also the bathroom is well equipped. Outside there was a table with chairs and deckchairs. The well maintained pool and the tennis court complete it all.

We liked the spacious garden that was neatly cured, they even have personel that comes by daily to keep it all in good shape.

The surroundings are beautiful and calm. We visited many antique little towns and loved the food. Gubbio is a lovely town that also has more shops. Perugia, the capital of Umbria, surely is worth a visit. We visited the small state of San Marino with amazing views over the Adriatic sea. As a cyclist I was also able to make some wonderful tours in the area, using my gps.

Ladies, thanks a lot for your suggestion to go to Montone. If possible we will come again next year.

Thank you and kind regards, Gerrit and Greta from Holland

2014:

Dear Saskia and Sylvia,

Thank you for all the information you’v sent us by mail. We’ve made some nice day trips to Assisi, Cascata delle Marmore and Lago Trasimeno. We found Montone also very interesting! Unfortunately we got back tonight in Belgium, time (always) flies when you are having fun. We will surely come back to Umbria, and we will remember this address. We were more than satisfied about the premises and the house.

Best regards, Ellen Belgium

2013:

Hello Willemijn & Saskia,

We had a great time.
·         The Villa had beautiful views of the Umbrian countryside – lots of fond memories/pictures
·         There were plenty of interesting places to visit – the cable car ride down from Gubbio was great (making up for the long climb to the top!)
·         The owners were very helpful – we managed to get by despite my appalling Italian
·         There were a few wasps – but we found a small nest that Vasco dealt with straight away – after that no more wasps.
·         Montone was lovely – there was a little shop just up the road from the Villa that sold fresh bread and pastries, and other useful items
·         Local restaurants were very good – and not too expensive
·         The kids loved the pool and the tennis court provided additional sport entertainment (badminton and cricket – which we brought with us)
In terms of things to improve, just the one really:
·         The Villa was meant to have Wifi - there was a router box but it was not picking up the internet – although we could get it by sitting outside one of the other Villa’s, not too bad with a glass of wine looking over the Umbrian countryside. If you would like anything else please let us know.

Kind regards,
Lawson, Jo, Dominic (9) and Annika (5)

From 2012:

We loved Montone Rental because of the space and views in an agricultural area with beautiful colors on the hills due to the different crops. Torre Alto was very big, three floors, high ceilings, cool because of the thick walls and authentically furnished with a lot of wood and stone.

Due to the heat, the lawn around the house had gone yellow, but we still enjoyed the huge flat space in front, next to and behind the house. We were often sitting under the tree with views stretching until the horizon. The nice vine covered pergola in front of the door aso provided enough shade during the day.

The tennis court (concrete) was fine and also the swimming pool was lovely. Nice views and enough sun beds. The wasps others were talking about were present, but only a few and only during the hottest time of day and where water was on the terrace. They were no nuisance at all.

We think Montone Rental is a fabulous holiday place for many reasons, also the lovely Italian atmosphere.

We do have two remarks. We did miss a coffee maker and the table tennis tables have really had their best days and also should be moved to a place where the ball does not keep falling down the hill.

The owners are very friendly and leave you alone.

Montone, close by, is lovely with lovely small streets and a wonderful square with 'good vibes', with men playing card games in the shade. Luckily there are (still) very few tourists in this area of Italy. Thanks for all you have done and we will certainly meet again.

Best wishes, Willy and Tineke

Dear Willemijn and Saskia,

The apartment, Torre Alto, was excellent and the swimming pool and tennis court as well. We enjoyed being able to swim at night and the pool was very clean. We really enjoyed ourselves.
One small remark is that we had internet access only for one computer, which is a bit little for a house for 8. The son of the owner explained we could use, with one code, internet on all devices, but this proved wrong. We used the second week code already in the first week and in the second week we received one new code.

Best wishes, Geske

2011:

We have had an excellent two week stay, very specious house, real elegant and comfortable and with all one could wish for, lovely porch, the house was very clean and a pool without any wasps! We loved the surrounding countryside also, Montone, Gubbio, Urbino, Assisi, Perugia. We can really recommend this.

Dear Willemijn and Saskia,

indeed our holiday has ended and we have enjoyed it fully. Umbria is not unknown to us and once again it was a pleasure to be there. Apartment Dietro is clean and tidy and we have no remarks … but maybe, knowing this is very subjective, we could say the beds are rather hard. However, this has in no way affected our holiday in a negative way.

Our compliments to the owners, we thanks them very much.

Best wishes, René

Beautiful, very pleasant.

We had no wasps bothering us, the tennis field net was a bit broken but we managed to take care of that ourselves. During our second week the owners were not there, maybe that is the reason it did not get mended.

Tip: for new people it would be handy to have a map with supermarkets indicated and also bakeries.

Tip for the house Torre Alto: some extra cutlery and glasses would have been welcome.

The dishwasher did not work or was dirty, so we did all by hand. However this is not a big deal.

Apart from this all was pleasant and we are thinking about returning next year with several families.

Good luck, Carine & Bart en kids.

Message from the owners of Montone Rental: In 2011 the premises will be disinfected by the local health authorities at the beginning of the summer seaon, to avoid the large quantity of wasps during summer.

From 2010:

Hello ladies,

We had a great week in Montone. The apartment is nice, wonderfull garden and the owners (Filippo and parents) are friendly and helpful. Another plus is the free internet. In Montone there is a nice atmosphere and a few good restaurants. Quit some wasps around the pool, maybe something can be done about that.

We enjoyed the guided tour in the abbey but thought it a tad expensive.
We'll make sure to return to Montone some day. Great to see that you really care for your customers, top!

Kind regards, Jaap and family

Dear Saskia and Willemijn,

We had a wonderful stay in Montone. The wheelchair didn't pose any problem and very convenient we were allowed to enter the house through the private garden. The apartment is spacious and comfortable; the other guests were very pleasant and we had wonderful weather. A point lost is the fact that it was difficult to sit outside of our own apartment. The terrace on the front is beautiful, the view breathtaking but during the day it can be too warm which makes you want to sit near the pool. But one would like to sit alone now and then.

Apart from that nothing but praise we had a splendid time. Thanks for your good service. The tour of the abbey was pretty and the stories the guide told made my ears perk up. A great summer and if we are to visit Umbria again we know where to find you!

Best regards, Ella & Pieter

Dear Saskia and Willemijn,

We spend 2 terrific weeks in the Casa of Montone Rental. Superb weather, great surroundings and for us Casa was the best place to be with its mega balcony from where you could witness the most beautiful sunsets.

All the best with you and company, Christiaan & Teet

From 2009:

Willemijn, Saskia,

Here an impression of our stay at Montone Rental "CASA" in august 2009.

We had a good time and in general were very happy with the accommodation. Well kept, nice views, quiet location, exactly as you described it.
I do want to share some negative experiences, though:

- The owner was very friendly upon arrival but mainly focussed on getting paid the final sum. We couldn't even get a shower first.
- There was only one larger towel and one smaller towel per person. And that's it for one week. It seems to me that it is better to advise guests to take their own linnen with them, rather then having to cope with a shortage.
- The internet connection was extremely expensive.
- The tap in the bathroom is very noisy and needs replacement.

Thanks for your organisation and who knows until next time.

With kind regards, P.M.

Reaction Villa in Umbria: in 2010 the internet connection will be for free.

Hi Saskia and Willemijn,

Our holiday in Montone was just lovely. The house was good, clean and with everything we needed. The owner was very helpful and friendly. She even spoke some english! The pool was clean. It was a pity there were many wasps around. For some people this may be a reason not to choose this house. Maybe we'll be back next year! Good luck with your work in Italy.

The downpayment is 40% of the rental sum. The rest should be paid upon arrival. There is no security deposit.

In Italy the tourism tax has been introduced. Each town can decide independently whether to apply this tax. It is important to keep in mind that the prices on our website do NOT include the tourism tax. Where we received confirmation from house owners that they have to ask for this tax, it is written underneath the price table.

Villa in Umbria is an intermediary and as such rents out holiday homes and apartments on behalf of their owners. When you book we will be sending an agreement in which you will find the bank details for the down payment and the final payment.

We know each vacation rental personally and also the owners of all the holiday rentals we have in our portfolio.

You can read more about us on the 'About Villa in Umbria' page.
