Il Tartufo Perugia

Holiday rental only a stone's throw away from Perugia yet immersed in nature. The holiday home is set in the middle of a tartufaio, a place where truffles grow, and olive groves. Nice views, very tranquil, big swimming pool … what more could one wish for?

"On site hosts, Alessandro and Isabella (and their daughter Sofia) were charming and helpful. We particularly appreciated that Alessandro set up the wood-burning barbecue whenever we needed it."

The Perugia holiday rental consists of 4 units. The main house for 8 guests with 4 bedrooms (each with private bathroom) and three small apartments, each with one bedroom. Total number of bedrooms (and bathrooms) is 7, sleeping 14 guests.

The lovely Italian owners, a young couple with one child, live on the property as well. They speak English and French and are very welcoming yet know how to respect your privacy. Over the past years they have restored the holiday rental themselves and finished the work with the building of the pool in the autumn of 2011. The pool is 6m by 12 m and 1.50m deep and surrounded by lawn. From here there is an open view towards the hills and part of the city of Perugia on the opposite hill.

There is wifi internet. There is a washing machine for general use and a iron with ironing board. Behind the main house is a large stone barbecue. There is a covered parking area. The nearest supermarket is at only 800 metres.

vacation-villa-perugia-with-pool-smallOne enters the property through a wide gate giving away to a lovely drive lined with cypress trees winding its way up the hill. A better way to enter an Italian holiday rental is not possible! The main house is on the right side and is 180 sqm.

One enters in a small hallway with steep stairs going up to the first floor (but behind the house there is an outside staircase leading to the first floor as well, which is wide and easy).

On the right one finds the kitchen with dining area. The kitchen has a big fridge with freezer, an under the counter fridge, a dishwasher and a 4 pit gas cooking hob. No oven. The dining area has several small tables that can be joined to make one big table in case guests would like to have a dinner together. There is also a fireplace.

On the left side of the hallway one finds the sitting room with sofa and two comfortable chairs. There is also a desk.

The first floor consists of a long corridor with the 4 bedrooms and in the middle the door to the outside stairs on one hand and the steep internal stairs on the other hand. Each bedroom has a double bed and bathroom with shower. The biggest bedroom has the bathroom on the ground floor (inside the bedroom there is a staircase leading down to the bathroom).

The main house has a covered sitting area in front of the house.

The three apartments are in the house on the left side of the driveway. The top floor houses one apartment and the reception area. These are on the ground floor on one side and on the first floor from the other side because the house is built against a hill.

Apartment 1 (sleeps 2) 45 sqm, the top floor apartment has a living room with kitchen-in-a-cupboard with 4 pit gas cooker and under the counter fridge. No oven. There is a bedroom with double bed and a bathroom with shower.

Dear Saskia and Sylvia,

We've had a lovely time at il Tartufo. It is only 5 minutes drive from Perugia. The accommodation is in the midst of the green nature. Isabella, Alessandro and their daughter Sofia are very hospitable and kind. The property itself as well as the apartments are decent and clean. There's a lovely pool and enough sun beds, shower and chairs.

If you love to spend your holiday in total peace and tranquillity, but you prefer being close to a city than you're here at the good address!

Saskia and Sylvia,

we were a party of 14 family members and had a great time at Il Tartufo. On site hosts, Alessandro and Isabella (and their daughter Sofia) were charming and helpful. We particularly appreciated that Alessandro set up the wood-burning barbecue whenever needed it. The house was spacious, clean and comfortable. The grounds and swimming pool were lovely and much appreciated by our grandchildren who spent time in the water every day. We would recommend this property to large families or groups of friends wanting a holiday in delightful surrounding close to the beautiful town of Perugia.

The only drawback was the kitchen which is much too small for a main house for eight people. We would recommend the provision of larger work surfaces and an oven or a microwave. There is a lot of space between the kitchen and dining room and more work space could easily provided. Northern Europeans also like to have a kettle.

Sincerely, Nigel and Sue

Dear Saskia and Sylvia,

The two weeks in Umbria, Perugia were excellent. We have no complaints. Isabella, Alessandra and their daughter Sophia are very hospitable. They do their very best to make guests feel at home. The apartment was small but cosy. The bedroom was a little bit musty, there were no windows in the room. Maybe a filter could help? Upon our arrival we were already invited to the birthday party of Sophia. In the second week a Belgian family arrived. We decided to organise a barbecue together. The food was good. The owners are good cooks, they served the best dishes without any problem accompanied with very good wines. We loved Perugia. Recommended! You can easily reach the city centre by taking the mini metro or you can arrange a sightseeing tour by bus through the city centre. Assisi, Bevagna, Montefalco, Spello, Gubbio, Montone, Umbertide, Città di Castello with its interesting Museum, Spoleto, Todi and as highlight Orvieto. The Duomo in Orvieto is amazing! All in all we had a lovely time at Il Tartufo. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t really that good as it usually is. We can recommend this location to anyone. Thank you Villa in Umbria for your service and reservation.

We hope to see you next time.

H. Holland

Dear Saskia and Willemijn,

Il Tartufo was a pleasant home, especially the first floor with the bedrooms is well organised. Personally I just missed the correct socket for my laptop, but that was it. The owners are very friendly and hospitable. Your description on the website is correct. The place is a small oasis of peace and still very close to Perugia.

Thanks a lot and kind regards, Victor and Hester (Tartufo Grande)

Hi Willemijn en Saskia,

Il Tartufo really was superb and a holiday to be repeated. Alessandro and Isabella are very kind and hospitable who enjoy having a chat with their guests now and then, but without being present too much. Their English is not very good, but enough to comunicate. They have a real passion for their grounds and their property. The apartment was good, with a small oven in the kitchen it would have been even better. The location is perfect, within 5 minutes by car you are in the centre of Perugia. Nice private terrace with the apartment 2 (we had our own chairs with us which was good, because the chairs on the terrace are good to eat, but not to rest). Excellent pool that is very clean. Alessandro is making parking space with shade which will be a good extra service in the future. We really had a wonderful week and would like to return to Il Tartufo to visit Perugia again.

And our compliments for your beautiful website, we found it a good experience booking via you with quick comunication and trustful management of payments. We have already recommended your website to others.

Regards, Marije and Fabian (apartment 2)

Our stay in Tartufo, apartment 3 was excellent. Very well kept premises and nice little apartment. The pool was very clean and the owners are very friendly. A small but: we would have liked more shade around the pool area. Nontheless we had a wonderful stay.

Regards, Hilde and Walter

Good morning,

Our stay at Il Tartufo was fantastic, we had a very positive experience, the owners were very friendly and the location was lovely. The apartment was excellent, the only things I can remark upon were the missing wine glasses and because we were cooking often the pots and pans did run a bit short and the quality was not very good, therefore cooking was not as easy as at home. Also a small oven for toasting bread was missing. We would have also liked to have a few comfortable chairs to relax in, there were only sun beds. However, this is not a reason not to come again and in case we would be visiting Umbria again, we will certainly return here.

Best wishes, Jan and Henny

Dear Saskia and Willemijn,

We have had an excellent week in Il Tartufo. Alessandro and Isabella are very friendly. The accommodation was totally according to our expectations and even better. We can not think of anything to remark. We will certainly recommend Il tartufo also to others.

Best wishes, Frank and Carolien

Dear Willemijn and Saskia,

I'd be delighted to comment upon our stay at Il Tartufo, and we would be happy for it to be added to your website. Here goes ...

We stayed at Il Tartufo in June 2012 for two weeks.  Although we arrived earlier than anticipated, the owners Isabella and Alessandro were more than happy to show us around, give us the apartment keys and to even take us to the supermarket about 8 km away.  They were very welcoming and always very helpful.  Although English is not their first language, we managed to have quite lengthy conversations.   Alessandro is, quite rightly, very proud of the property that they have been developing and renovating to a very high standard. They have a very gentle dog, Matilde, which never barks except on one occasion where she was spooked by fireworks going off one night. If you give her a biscuit (she likes ameratti) she will be your friend for life.  She also knows her boundaries of where she is and isn't allowed. We found the welcome pack that they provided very useful for a quick refreshment before our first visit to the supermarket - teabags, fresh coffee, olive oil and a bottle of water.

Our apartment was tastefully decorated and scrupulously clean. During our stay, it was cleaned twice a week with fresh towels and bed linen.  Everything was in as-new condition. The bathroom in particular was very well equipped. The apartment was cool, even when the temperature was hot outside.  It was the smallest of the three apartments but beautifully proportioned.  The only things that could improve it would be to have a kettle in the kitchen (we English do like our cups of tea and coffee) and for a chest of draws to replace the television table as storage space was at a premium.

The grounds around the outside of the apartment were very well kept.  As the property was on the side of a hill, there was quite a lot of terracing.
The outdoor furniture was in as-new condition and it was also of very good quality.  The big parasol was very useful for keeping out of the sun on very hot afternoons.
The swimming pool, which Alessandro said he had built the previous year was excellent, especially for cooling down and swimming around.  For once we didn't mind the water being cold when we first went in.  The pool floor was at constant depth, rather than having a slope, which might be a bit unnerving for short non-swimmers.  The reader of the property description might be forgiven in thinking that a road runs between the pool and the main house. Be assured that this is a private road of about 300 metres in length before the outside gate is reached, and the pool is very private.  Due to the very warm weather, the pool attracts a number of insects, although this cannot be avoided in a rural setting.  In the evenings, swifts take advantage of the pool to swoop down for a gulp of water.

The property is very quiet, even though it is only about three kilometres from the old city in a straight line.  There is no traffic noise apart from the occasional sounds of a tractor and other farm machinery. There is a lovely view to the other side of the valley that has a huge amount of greenery with properties scattered randomly along the valley side.

One cannot wish for a better base for sightseeing as the dual carriageway network is only about eight kilometres away.  There are masses of old hillside towns, medieval churches and cathedrals to explore, with wonderful undulating countryside all around.

All in all, it was like a little bit of heaven.

The downpayment is 30% of the rental sum to be paid upon booking. The balance should be paid 4 weeks prior to arrival. The security deposit for the larger house is Euro 300 and for an apartment the security deposit is Euro 100.

In Italy the tourism tax has been introduced. Each town can decide independently whether to apply this tax. It is important to keep in mind that the prices on our website do NOT include the tourism tax. Where we received confirmation from house owners that they have to ask for this tax, it is written underneath the price table.
