Casa Porcospino

Casa Porcospino is a holiday apartment with private garden, part of an old restored farmhouse in a tranquil position in nature.

"The accommodation was comfortable and stylish with everything we needed."

The holiday rental apartment has terra cotta floors and thick wooden beams. The old farmhouse in the Upper Tiber Valley area, sits on 650 meters altitude, a guarantee for the best views over nature. This is the area where Umbria meets Tuscany and the Marche. This is the ideal rental for nature lovers and anybody looking for a quiet time, away from the fast pace, constant pressure and unnatural environment. The apartment is, with one bedroom, ideal for a couple, but there is a very good sofa bed so the apartment sleeps 4 people in total.

The old farmhouse is surrounded by 30.000 m2 of land with a small vineyard, olives and many fruit trees (that long to be picked!). No need to say that you can see far from here and what you see can keep you dreaming the whole of your holiday (and beyond). This apartment rental offers total privacy, being at the back of the house (looking over the house). There are 4 apartments in the old farmhouse, owned by two different owners, all non Italian. Two of the four apartments are rented for holidays (the other being ll Riccio). Each apartment has its own entrance and none of the owners live permanently on site (except when they are on holiday themselves).

The old farmhouse has a swimming pool (shared with all 4 apartments). The pool is 12 by 7 meters and is open from mid May to mid September. The farmhouse offers ample outside sitting areas and the apartment has a terrace with outdoor table where you can dine, plus the private garden.

At 15 minutes from Città di Castello, 20 kms from the house, are the villages of Anghiari and Sansepolcro in Tuscany. Read more about these on our blog, as well as a tip for a good restaurant in Città di Castello.

Vacation rental in Northern UmbriaThe holiday rental apartment is around 80 m2 and has a big living room with good quality sofa bed (for 2), a spacious kitchen corner with a microwave/oven, 4 pit gas cooker, fridge with small built in freezer and everything you need to prepare a good meal. The living room has a CD player with some CDs. The furniture has been made by the local furniture producers, known worldwide for their excellent quality and craftsmanship.

The satellite TV has a Dutch decoder (but one can view international channels as well). Wifi internet is possible. The apartment can be heated when needed and there is a working fireplace in the living room. The bathroom has a washbasin, shower, toilet and bidet. The spacious bedroom has a double bed and a chest of drawers for your clothes and a normal cupboard to hang clothes. Furthermore there is an iron and ironing board, plus a hairdryer in the bathroom. There is a washing machine for common use.

Near the pool is a horse-fly trap.

Parking is below the farmhouse, but when needed you can drive up to the farm without any problems. There is a steep and narrow hill to drive up to the house. Since the autumn of 2012 this has been laid with concrete all the way, making the drive up much easier.

The centre of Citta di Castello is an easy 20 minutes drive from the farmhouse. On the road to the centre, on 15 minutes drive, you will find a big supermarket where you can do all your shopping. You can also go to Lama for shops, this is just over 10 minutes drive. Citta di Castello is an old city, offering a pleasant atmosphere. There are several museums both for old art as well as for modern art. In September the city organizes every year the International Festival of Chamber music. The holiday rental offers, apart from nature and quiet, good opportunities to visit the beautiful antique towns and cities scattered around Tuscany and Umbria. To mention a few: Monterchi, Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, Citerna, Sansepolcro, Perugia, Arezzo, Urbino and many more. You can play golf close to Lerchi (9 hole golf course) and here you can also ride a horse. The Dutch owners will have a folder with information about what to see and do, where to eat, market days and more in the apartment.

2016:

Dear Saskia and Sylvia,

Casa Porcospino means peace and away from the crowd. You have to pay attention to the mosquitos and flies at the pool and house... if they weren't there you would be in complete heaven.

The swimming pool is not situated nearby the house, therefor you'll need to put your shoes on to get there. At night there's not much light. Walking from the parking place to the apartment is not easy in the dark.

The house is well equipped. The interior of the house, the kitchen and the bathroom, they've paid attention to every small detail. All together gives you a warm welcome. Mind that the road to the house is steep and long.

Small people will not have problems with the doors and wooden ceiling beams, we just were not lucky because we sometimes bumped our heads against it.

All together, despite the minor issues, we have enjoyed our holiday at Casa Porcospino ant this house is really recommended.

2015:

Hi Saskia,

we enjoyed our stay at Casa Porcospino very much. The owners were very welcoming and informative. The accommodation was comfortable and stylish with everything we needed. The pool was lovely (and wasp free). We'd recommend this villa to others and love the area.

2014:

Hello Saskia and Sylvia,

We have had a real fine holiday, apart from the weather. The house is complete and exceeded our expectations: tranquil, privacy, kitchen well equipped, clean, enough towels available and change of linen very punctual. Even the much discussed steep hill up and down wasn’t a problem at all (now tarred)! We find Casa Porcospino an ideal position to visit other cities (Gubbio, Urbino, Ravenna ..). We mentioned in the guest book that normally we do not return to the same holiday rental, but that we want to make an exception this time. For you, Villa in Umbria, we’ve booked an apartment though your website two times. Our previous stay was at Lisciano Niccone (San Martino and Martinino). And again our expectations have been fulfilled. Our daughter and son in law rented an apartment in Umbertide through your organization in June and were also quite happy with their choice.

You have satisfied guests!
Hopefully see you next time, Luk Belgium

2013:

Dear Willemijn and Saskia,

We enjoyed our stay in the Casa Porcospino. It was just perfect. The house is very complete, everything you need is present, well done ! Very quiet location. In short: a holiday worth repeating.

Kind regards, Leoniek from Holland

From the owners: the road has been repaired in autumn 2012. The steep part that was causing problems is now covered with concrete, making it easy for every car to drive up to the house. On the page with extra pictures you can see the road as it is now.

From 2011:

Hi Saskia and Willemijn,

we enjoyed our stay very much, only the weather was not as great as it can be, but that is nobody's fault. The only remark for improvement is that a fly screen in the front door would be welcome. All rest was fine and we had a great time! Also thanks for letting us bring our two dogs. They loved it as well.

Best wishes, Ann, Joost, Ralf , Loris en Kappo

From 2010:

All went well. We really enjoyed every moment. Lovely cottage, very quiet. Great with the dog.

Best wishes, N.

From the owners guestbook:

Enjoyed the house this week that apart from tranquility and serenity has so much comfort. Woken in the morning by the soft oe-oe-oe from the hoopoe and the cheerful whistling of the Golden Oriole. Very special. Apart from that crickets and firefly's a sight to behold. Were awed at the pretty towns and villages: Arezzo, Sansepolcro, the pinacoteca in Citta di Castello en above all Gubbio, beautiful middle-eval sporting with fascinating alleys. We slept well and enjoyed the views from the terrace.
Thanks for your hospitality, nice wines and great atmosphere.

Ah what to say, well to start with the concluding note: we had a tremendous good time in this place heavenly place. The weather was great and we basically have been lounging about, swimming, eating and lounging about some more. For a change we did some shopping, ate pizza but we did not manage to do the trips you mentioned in the documentation in the house. Not a lot of walking either, lounging was the de rigger. We lived as Gods in Italy. We're of to our home, till next time.

Kind regards, A. and P.

The down payment is 15% of the rental sum to be paid upon booking. The remaining balance should be paid 6 weeks prior to arrival, together with the final cleaning fees and other extra's, if applied. There is no security deposit.

In Italy the tourism tax has been introduced. Each town can decide independently whether to apply this tax. It is important to keep in mind that the prices on our website do NOT include the tourism tax. Where we received confirmation from house owners that they have to ask for this tax, it is written underneath the price table.

Villa in Umbria is an intermediary and as such rents out holiday homes and apartments on behalf of their owners. When you book we will be sending an agreement in which you will find the bank details for the down payment and the final payment.

We know each vacation rental personally and also the owners of all the holiday rentals we have in our portfolio.
